چکیده

The chlorophyll stability in biomimetic environment is the precondition for its potential application in various fields of science and technology. Its unique role, based on the specific and very diverse chemical reactivity, justifies its use in industrial technology, pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industry, but also in medicine. In this work, two types of liposomes were prepared from saturated (dipalmitoyl phosphatidylcholine) and unsaturated (PHOSPHOLIPON 90®) lipids. The artificial lipid membranes were labeled with a natural photopigment chlorophyll a (Chla). The stability of Chla-based liposomes to in vitro induced oxidative stress by visible and UVB irradiation was examined by UV-Vis absorption spectra, and by monitoring two kind of lipid peroxidation biomarkers (conjugated dienes and TBA-MDA assay) which were quantified in order to evaluate the photodamage degree of artificial lipid membranes. Chla proved to be an effective spectral sensor to detect any damages induced by visible light and UVB irradiation on liposomes. After applied Vis/UVB radiation, Chla-liposomes suffered photodegradation which was more pronounced under UVB stress. The investigations demonstrated a closely connection between lipid peroxidation and chlorophyll degradation. The deterioration was higher in the case of biomimetic membranes made of unsaturated lipids exposed to photo-oxidative stress because of presence of double bonds in lipid molecules that decisively contribute to the formation of lipid radicals. Based on these results it can be concluded that chlorophyll behavior mechanism under the photo-oxidative stress is of crucial importance for further bio-applications.

Oxidative Stress Studies on Lipid Model Membranes

The living organisms are known to be often exposed to oxidative stress due to the action of most of environmental factors: the exposure to athmospheric oxygen (O2), the pollution, the ozone and the ultraviolet radiation level increasing. The consequence of this fact is the biomolecules (proteins, nucleic acids and lipids) damaging. The oxidative stress mainly affects the membranous systems of a...

The relationship between Indicators of plasma oxidative stress and photo aging

Introduction: Photo aging is significantly different from chronological aging in both clinical and histological appearances. It has been suggested that oxidative stress generated by ultraviolet radiation (UVR), leads to photo aging over a long time period. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between the indicators of plasma oxidative stress and photo damaged skin in patient...

Effects of Diesel Combustion Nanoparticles on Oxidative Stress Markers among the Exposures

Background: Although studies are available on lipid peroxidation products and the antioxidant status in experimental animals, a detailed report on human exposed to diesel combustion nanoparticles is meagre. We aimed to study the variation in oxidative stress markers among exposures. Method:A cross-sectional study during the period between 2015-2017 was conducted among 500 male garage workers of...

Vitamin E protects rat testis, eye and erythrocyte from oxidative stress during exposure to radiofrequency wave generated by a BTS antenna model

Background: Radio frequency wave (RFW) generated by mobile phones and wireless communication systems has been reported to cause adverse effects on reproductive function, vision and hematological parameters, possibly through oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of RFW generated bybase transceiver station BTS on oxidative stress in testis, eye and erythrocyte, and th...
